PEACEABLE KINGDOM

Original Exhibit Dates: December 11, 2012 to January 5, 2013

Our twenty-eighth exhibit was inspired by a series of paintings titled “The Peaceable Kingdom” by Edward Hicks (1780-1849), that features different creatures, both predator and prey, gathered around a watering hole, living in peace – a needed metaphor for our times. Sanibel resident, naturist and art patron, Dr. Greg Woodham, brought this beautiful series to our attention in 2010, and asked if we had ever seen one with a Florida motif.

Although we never found one, we thought an exhibition with different creatures gathered around the gallery would be a fabulous show, especially for the Islands, where we try to live in harmony with Nature. The result was this very special exhibit featuring eight artists, many of whom knew of these paintings and were excited to create new work in this theme.

At the gallery, we had creatures great and small in paint, paper, clay and glass.
